Welcome to Levin Intermediate School, where we prioritise the wellbeing and inclusivity of every single one of our students, including those in the LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui communities. At our school, we believe that everyone deserves to feel valued and supported, which is why we have established our Rainbow Group.

Our Rainbow Group is a safe and welcoming space for 10, 11 and 12 year old students who identify as LGBTQIA+ or takatāpui, or who are allies to these communities. Led by a member of our Senior leadership team, this group meets weekly to discuss a range of topics that are important to our students.

The Rainbow Group is largely directed by the needs of the students, which means that the topics we cover can vary from week to week. However, we always make sure that we are working within the guidelines of the ‘Relationships and Sexuality Education’ guide for teachers, school leaders and the school's Board of Trustees. This ensures that our discussions are appropriate and beneficial for our students.

At our Rainbow Group, we understand the importance of creating a supportive community for our LGBTQIA+ and takatāpui students. We want to make sure that they feel heard, understood, and valued. By participating in our group, students can develop a sense of belonging and confidence, as well as learn valuable life skills.

We encourage parents of 10, 11 and 12 year old students to talk to their children about the Rainbow Group and consider if it is something that their child may benefit from. Our school is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students, and we believe that our Rainbow Group is an important part of that commitment.

Thank you for considering Levin Intermediate School for your child's education. We look forward to creating a positive and inclusive experience for your family.
