EPro8

On Wednesday 16th March, L.I.S participated in an Inter-School Science and Technology Competition. If you haven’t heard already, Epro8 is a fun (but kind of stressful), Year 7-8 competition. To get into Epro8, you can’t just be someone who wants to do it for the sake of doing it; you must have lots of scientific knowledge, good mathematical workouts, and of course, a brain that can figure out many, complex ways and patterns. The reason for that is, the challenges aren’t just focused on one sort of engineering. Some challenges involve electricity, some involve motors, and some involve string and weights. Fortunately, we entered three collaborative teams for L.I.S; LIS Leptons (Chris, Mere, Kasey, Jazz), LIS Isotopes (Ethan, Elijah, Joel, Yash), and LIS Spectrums (Will, Hana, Alec, Emma). (Each of the team’s first letters match up to make ‘’L.I.S’’.) During the competition (my team especially), encountered a lot of problems; our first challenge failed, and we wasted about ¼ of our time, which was 2 ½ hours (for all challenges). We all had mixed emotions, some happy, some tearful, some pessimistic, and some wanting to strive and get the jobs over and done with. You wouldn’t believe how intense it was, there were 8 challenges and not even a single one of our teams from L.I.S or from our opponents, got anywhere near all of them done. All of our teams that represented L.I.S that night were absolutely astonished. We all enjoyed our time pondering on how to get each challenge completed and over with. It was an amazing privilege to have been chosen to go. In other words, we all had so much fun. Each of our teams shone like stars; L.I.S Isotopes came 4th overall just missing out on the semifinals, L.I.S Leptons ranked an astounding 7th place, nearly 3 places out of semifinals. Propitiously, L.I.S Spectrums came 2nd equal and were asked to compete in the semifinals! Believe it or not, that team was the youngest out of all our teams, that consisted of all Year 7’s.
